I live at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, a glorious part of the world surrounded by valleys, forests, walking paths and, most importantly, wineries.
A constant battle twixt myself and the encroaching wilderness of my half-acre property ensues daily - a battle which I will never win.
The seclusion and tranquility make it a perfect place to hole up and write, especially in the winter months when the frost sets in.
The writing magic happens in a warm little nook at the bottom of the house, closed off by a deep red curtain (my very own Black Lodge). In the summer, this is the only room in the house that is not in danger of combusting due to the sheer ambient heat.
Surrounded by the paraphernalia of whatever book I am writing (various tchotchkes, gewgaws, spirits, liqueurs, books, food stuffs and weaponry), I sit at my desk with a pot of freshly brewed tea and...let's face it, I procrastinate, avoid, tremble, and swear.
Somehow, eventually, magic happens.
